Dick Johnson

Dick Johnson

As a teenager Dick Johnson landed a residency at Manchester’s legendary Hacienda Club where he honed his house sound until it’s closure in 1997. Before long he was producing tracks for Cream’s Olympic label, New Order’s Pleasure Recordings and Manchester’s Paper Recordings collective, and had set up his own record label Shaboom records which went on to do over 100 releases from the likes of Joeski, Fred Everything, Doc Martin and DJ Sneak.

Prolific in the studio, he went on to do albums for Darren Emerson’s Underwater Label and Bristol house imprint NRK, as well as releases for Jesse Rose’s Made To Play/Play It DownSouthern Fried, Nic Fanciulli’s Saved RecordsLazy DaysSoundwayMOS & Vicious.

As well as his own solo productions, Dick has remixed the likes of Crookers, Claude Von Stroke, DJ Sneak, Ian Pooley, Worthy, Crazy P, Bassnectar, Fred Everything and is part of a few live acts. The first is the eight-piece band Weird Together with its own twist on world music. They have released two EP’s so far, the first through UK label Soundway and the second on Jillionaire's (Major Lazer) Feel Up Records. The second project is MEDZ, a slower, more futuristic electronic project, and the third is Clicks.

Now based in Auckland, New Zealand and with a weekly show on local radio station George Fm, Dick continues a busy DJ schedule and it’s a rare weekend indeed that he is not behind the decks electrifying a crowd of dedicated followers and testing his tunes on dance floors from Russia to Argentina and most points in between. He has EP’s due to drop in late 2017 for Play It Down and  Vicious Records, and has just mixed the latest George FM Chillsville album.

The Sun Kings Waterbourne

Wellington local indie legends – a four piece guitar based band with their feet firmly stuck in UK 90’s indie rock. Three of the band hail from the UK - Andy Marsh (guitar and vocals), Steve Hughes (bass), Andy Galinski (guitar) with Brazilian Diogo Frere following up on the drums.

The band are firmly at home live belting out their blend of rock and not caring to catch up with current musical trends at all. The band wears their Oasis and Britpop influence both loudly and visually whilst having their own distinctive sound and approach live. The Sun Kings have firmly kept their feet in the Wellington region, espousing fame and fortune to focus on artistic purity (essentially not wanting to drive further than Kapiti or Upper Hutt), following the maxim that happiness truly begins at home.

The band write and produce their own material – they have released two albums; “milestones”, a collection of demos and “never look straight at the sun”, their first proper full release sees the song writing and production progressing as with their recent release the EP “Glass Made Tie” hitting a new depth in their musical journey. The current focus for 2018 is recording their next album.

The Filthy TwoThe Filthy Two - Waterbourne

The Filthy Two are a hard rockin’, toe tappin’ multi-instrumental duo specialising in a tasty mixture of Celtic roots-rock and current and classic crowd favourites. The ‘two swap vocals, harmonies and a diverse range of instruments to create a sound that is much larger and more varied than a duo should have any right to…

As an acoustic-based duo there is also an incredible dynamic that comes with two musicians stretching out and delivering a sound that is as full of nuances and live energy as any larger act – a fact they are often told by surprised punters. The Filthy Two’s instrumental line up includes 6 and 12 string guitars, fretless acoustic bass guitar, mandolin, bouzouki, harmonica, tin whistle, and melodica.

The Filthy Two have also toured extensively around both the North and South Islands, entertaining crowds in the major cities as well as locals and tourists way off the beaten track. A popular choice for private functions, they have played weddings and parties the length of both islands with consistently great reviews. The Filthy Two have also played the main festival stages to literally thousands of partygoers at a time, with phenomenal feedback from internationally acclaimed events such as the Hokitika Wildfoods Festival
